About the Role

Reporting to Area Manager, Barry Fox this is a pivotal role that supports the delivery of new residential housing and industrial development in Melbourne’s south eastern greenfield  growth area. Using your experience as a civil/environmental engineer with a focus on stormwater management, as well as a good understanding of the statutory referral process for development and subdivision permits, you will support the delivery of new conveyance, retardation and stormwater quality infrastructure that supports new development in this area.

This role is a key part of the Development Services Scheme (DSS) program, a type of developer-funded Infrastructure Contribution Plan which manages, and quality assures the delivery of land and new assets in growth areas to enable the development of new jobs and homes for Melbourne, predominantly in Greenfield areas.

You will be required to:

  • Make decisions using experienced engineering and planning judgement in a high volume setting to deliver urban planning and stormwater asset design approvals (predominantly development and subdivisions relating to civil engineering and environmental engineering matters) within the DSS areas.
  • Undertake reviews of stormwater management strategies for new greenfield subdivisions
  • Assess and respond to functional designs of Melbourne Water pipelines, constructed waterways, retarding basins and wetlands with support from Principal Engineers
  • Provide excellent written and verbal communication to internal and external stakeholders and demonstrate strong relationship management skills with developers and engineering consultants

About you:

  • Hold a degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering that meets the eligibility criteria for Membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia (MIEA)
  • Sound knowledge in development engineering, the development industry relating to planning and subdivision matters, floodplain management, drainage, waterway management, health, and liveability.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with knowledge of the development engineering to able making ‘on the spot’ decisions
  • Demonstrated experience in the application and review of civil engineering designs, reports and stormwater management strategies.
  • Extensive experience in managing technical applications or designs from engineering and urban planning consultants.
  • Exposure to, and basic understanding of, hydrological and hydraulic modelling such as RORB, HECRAS and TUFLOW
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills together with high level verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of external and internal influencing and negotiating skills with the ability to build and maintain strong personal and corporate relationships and gain the confidence and support of stakeholders.

This is a general civil / land development engineering role where statutory urban planning and development engineering knowledge is needed to succeed.
